Essays: Overcoming challenges

Bitterness

How do you unload bitterness?

Other than to add too much sugar and make a mess of it. My husband says you have to let it go.

How do you let it go?
Come to terms with it, accept it, then release it, he says. My husband, the Zen master; the calm in my many storms.

How do you accept it? I ask.

Accept it is what it is, I say before he can answer and he's left stumped. Easier said than done I tell myself

I have to take an offense and I have to break it down. I can only understand their point of view only after I'm done understanding my own.

I cannot take it at face value. I'm too angry to do that.

My husband says you have to accept bitterness as you would a rainy day. But a rainy day doesn't make you emotional, I say. Sure it does, he says

How do you unload the feeling of emptiness that come with a realization that some things in this world you cannot change no matter how you try?

When you change the way you see something that thing changes, as if by magic. When you shift the angle from where you view it, the picture tells another story.
