I find it interesting that all writers in this category seem to think that swinging is all about sex with multiple partners and partner swapping.

In fact many people in the "lifestyle" do not "swap" and do not have sex with other people. They may participate in "petting", exhibitionism or voyeurism or use the lifestyle environment to boost their interest in sex with each other much as some people do with porn. This is not to say that swinging should be used as a way to save a marriage in trouble because many people cannot handle the intimacy that exists with the rest of the group even when not participating in sexual encounters.

Many others simply like the ability to be with a group of non-judgmental people. Most swingers are average people. They may therefore be overweight or not the best looking people on the street but at a swinger function that is usually unimportant. People are taken for who they are more than what they look like, which is the opposite of what most people expect since swinging does have such heavy sexual overtones.

In my experience and opinion, swinging is simply a group of like minded adults petting together in a pressure, sexual and appearance free environment for a fun time. You may participate or not in any of the activities with little or no pressure to do either.

I met my current partner at my first swingers function five years ago and we have been together ever since. At that particular function I was a single male and had been invited by the owners of the club. (in most swinger groups single males usually have to be invited and signed in to functions by a member of the club. That goes equally for the male half of a club couple who breaks up.) She was a single female. I was amazed at how friendly everyone was to me as a stranger and how comfortable they made me feel. Many are friends now who we see at functions when we go.

That is my opinion of what swinging is. I will write more about the "lifestyle" in other articles.
