How feminism negatively affects women balancing family needs

Feminism was not a bad thing while it was fledgling movement that dealt with real inequalities between the sexes. It was about giving women choice. It seems to evolved into a crazed monster that has swung the balance in the other direction. Instead of keeping a woman in the home, it now seems the feminist society looks down upon any woman who choses the traditional role of a woman over a career. Feminism is wrecking women by pressuring women into feeling inadequate because they cannot raise children, maintain a household, and have a successful career with ease and grace. There is nothing graceful about trying to get a vomit stain out of your best blouse on your way to an important meeting while you are crying because you can't stay home with your ill child. There is nothing heroic about take out food 3 nights in a row, or being so exhausted you find it nearly impossible to help your third grader with their math homework. Feminism was once about giving women more power, more equality...but even though more women work out of the home today the statistics on who takes care of the children and house hold tasks have not drastically changed. In fact, reasearch shows that the effort put in by an employed women, who is also a mother is the equivalent to two full time jobs.

I just hung up my "super mom" sneakers and closed my successful business that I went through a lot of schooling to get to. I was tired of the gnawing in the pit of my stomach, and the exhaustion, and the stress of a never ending and impossible to do list. We cut our income in half so I could stay home and be a mom and wife in the sense that nature meant. I am home now to do laundry and teach my little girl silly songs, and take the dog for her morning walks. I can actually make it to mom and tot groups and library story times that I had never had the chance to experience as I "successful" career woman. I wouldn't trade the look on my daughter's face as she learns something new, or the frequent hugs I get throughout the day for all the six figure pay checks in the world. I finally feel like I am fulfilling my purpose. The strong feminsit ideas of today's society almost stole that from me, and so many more women are missing out because of the immense pressure we have to do it all and be it all.

I am not saying we need to abolish feminism, but I think it is time to look at the exhausted and frustrated state of womenhood today and try and actually give women back their choice. It is time society embraces the fact that raising children and maintaining a home is one of the most important jobs there is. It is a happy and peaceful home that provides stability in society. In a world where children are raised by televisions and strangers, and where couples only share in a few meaningful minutes a day, it is easy to see why things just seem to be falling apart in so many ways. Society needs to support moms in there super human effort to make the productive citizens of tomorrow. It is time to stop feeling guilty for being XX, and embracing the role we were created for.

I am a woman, I am a mother, I am a wife. Hear me roar!
