When you think of 80's metal music, who comes to mind? Is there really a difference between 80's metal and 80's rock? I thought there was until I did a search for the
top 80's metal bands, and to my surprise I learned that what I considered rock was
actually metal. Call it Metal or call it Rock, just try not to call them hairbands or glamrockers.

If the power ballad destroyed Metal music in the late 80's, then why, oh why, are many of these bands still rockin' today? If 80's metal was actually destroyed then how is it that I've been able to see Poison, Def Leppard, Great White, Slaughter, Skid Row, Quiet Roit, Motley Crue, Ratt, Firehouse, Warrant, Queensryche, Winger, Dokken, Tesla, and the Bullett boys all within the new Millennium?

Yes, twenty years later, these bands are still rockin' it just as they did in the 80's, and I believe a lot of it has to do with their power ballads. Poison gave us "Something to Believe in", Def Leppard - "Love Bites", Great White - "Save all your love", Dokken - "Alone Again", Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home", Skid Row - "I remember you", Slaughter "Fly to the Angles", Warrant - "Sometimes She Cries", Queensryche - "Silent Lucidity", and Firehouse - "Love of a Lifetime".

Being a teenager in the 80's and having the opportunity to see these bands in concert were very limited, so now I may act a bit childish when I hear they are in concert and I jump at the chance to see them. I don't believe the power ballad destroyed metal music, but rather it made these metal bands unforgettable.
