Can your cholesterol level be too low?

Many people have heard of the dangers of high cholesterol, but can this fact apply to low cholesterol, as well? It may be surprising to some people, but the answer is yes.

There are several different health problems, which may be linked to very low blood cholesterol levels in the body, which are not within the normal range to be considered healthy for an individual

For example, some studies have shown a link between lower than average cholesterol levels, and an increase in anxiety, depression, and aggression among the study group. Different studies even suggested a possible link with some brain dysfunctions due to very low cholesterol levels and lower serotonin levels, which is sometimes thought of as the body's mood regulator.

Other studies suggest a possible link between lower cholesterol blood levels, and patients who later developed cancer.

Even further studies, have shown a lower cholesterol amount with an increased link to stroke.

Since almost half of the brain is made up of fats, some studies suggest increasing fat intake if your cholesterol level is lower than average. This could include increasing your intake of more foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids with foods like salmon, sardines, and other fish.

.A person needs to keep their cholesterol level within a normal range to reap the helpful benefits from the HDL, good cholesterol, as well as, warding off any negative effects an abnormally low cholesterol level may pose.

Today, the majority of people are concerned about avoiding high cholesterol levels, and finding ways that they can reduce their levels through diet and exercise. On the other hand, there are some people who have very low cholesterol, who are concerned about raising their levels to a point within the normal range.

Following a diet plan of healthy foods, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, can help an average person keep their cholesterol levels with the normal range. Many factors also contribute to changes in cholesterol levels, such as age, smoking, lack of exercise, and our inherited genes, which unfortunately we can't change.

Today, the majority of people are concerned about avoiding high cholesterol levels, and finding ways that they can reduce their levels through diet and exercise.

If, however, a person's very low cholesterol level does not change with a healthy diet and cholesterol levels remain below the normal range, then a person should consult with their doctor, who may offer further advice and follow with other tests.
