Know when to Fold

Sitting at my desk, I felt a tinge of remorse for not getting to bed at an earlier hour. But I also knew how important it was for Jack and I to spend some alone time together once the children were asleep. We clicked on the Internet poker and as Jack played each hand, he instructed me as to the dos and do nots of the game. Playing the supportive partner, I just smiled and nodded. Eventually, I nodded off to sleep.

The two cups of coffee began to take affect; in more ways than one. I was torn between listening to a fellow student read her creative non-fiction piece and leaping for the door to race to the washroom. Finally, my instructor spoke those divine words, "Let's break for 15 minutes". Without revealing my dire need, I casually strolled to the ladies room. I had wanted to feel the freedom of comfort that day, so I had worn my denim overalls. I would later regret it. Once finished my personal business, I turned around, with the flap of my overalls still undone, and flushed the toilet. Oh how things happen so quickly. My favorite Royal pen was in my overall's top pocket, and next it was twirling around in the bowl. My immediate reaction was to grab it, but as my hand hovered over the porcelain, I could hear my inner voice scream, "Always fold your hand when you are facing a Royal Flush".
Jack would be proud.
