David Beckham may be a big huge superstar soccer player in his homeland, but he is about to find out that to the United States of America he is just another talented soccer player. His wife, while incredibly gorgeous, is really nothing more than an ex Spice Girl.
Soccer is not America's sport. It has never even been close, and I'm sorry to say that even with the incredibly gifted Beckham no living on U.S. soil, it will never be. He may bring a few extra fans out of the woodwork, but I don't foresee a "Harry Potter" ish craze in America anytime soon.
If anything it is his wife who will become the bigger star when she is eventually caught sunbathing nude or a video tape pops up on the Internet catching her in all her glory.
Their children will be treated like any other minor celebrities child. With a little bit of interest... but that will grow old after a little while or when a bigger celebrity comes to town.
If he was an equally talented football star however, then.... well then we would have a whole different story on our hands. And isn't ironic how to the rest of the world he is huge football star.... only in America. Thats another debate in itself.
If Beckham could throw a 70 yard pass or run a ball through four Pittsburgh Steeler defenseman... than he would become a big star. Endorsements... billboards... shoes...a guest appearance on My Name is Earl... the whole nine yards.
Even if he were able to hit a baseball 500 yards without the aid of steroids, or throw a 99 mile per hour fastball that drops at the last minute... yes he would then be a superstar in the eyes of the American public.
His children would be constantly photographed, his wife always followed... and he would be the top news story when he gets ticketed for drunken driving.
As a soccer star... he is below the average NHL superstar on the totem pole. He may even be below golf and tv poker stars but that has to be said yet. The ratings on golf, poker, and soccer probably flip around pretty inconsistently.
His children are safe. They will be forgotten in the same amount of time that it took America to forget about Anna Nicole Smith's children.
Yes, their children will be as accepted as the Beckham's want them to be. If they want their children to grow up being respected citizens, they that is what they will be. If they want them to grow up to be spoiled brats that are will do anything for attention (does the Hilton name pop up at all?), then yes, I suppose, they might not have a so called normal life.
Hopefully the Beckham's are leaning toward the former... I don't know if I could handle another "Simple Life".

Of course the Beckhams would doubtless be financially ABLE to give their children a normal life IF they so desired. But,
The Beckhams will not be able to give their children a normal life anywhere they choose to live because of the media attention.
