I believe that the use of the Bible in the courtroom is not showing the proper respect for the dignity and respect that the Bible deserves. Here is why this is true. We all have different beliefs and different religions and even there are many who do not adhere to any religion at all. If a Christian chooses to swear on the Bible to tell the truth they if in good standing before God, realizes the seriousness and their obligation to tell the truth and the whole truth before their Creator. They would do this because they respect the Bible as God's written word and give it the dignity it deserves out of the love they have for God.
But what of the person/s who are not believers in the Bible or practice other faiths. They are not going to have the same respect or give the bible the same dignity that it deserves as the one who believes the bible to be the word of God. It does not mean anything to them so what makes the judicial courts feel this one will" tell the truth, the whole truth, so help them God.": Here is where it is so ridicules. The court is asking this non-believer in the Bible and even possibly not even a believer in God to swear they will tell the truth, the whole truth, on a God they possible don't believe in. What a joke!
Not to mention the criminal who just murdered their wife, husband or neighbor, or who just blew up a building and killed 100 people or more. What makes the court think that a criminal who has no respect for property or life would tell the truth if they make them swear on a book they probably never even read or a God they do not know? That to me is unbelievable and shows such disrespect for God and his word the Bible.
As I said if a Christian wishes to swear on the Bible or make a vow or take an oath on the Bible before God, that is their choose and right. Why? Because it has been done before by others and they knew the seriousness of what it meant to swear on the Bible. But to ask a non-believer in the Bible or a criminal who has no respect for anyone or anything to do so. It is wrong and should be discontinued in the court room because it disrespects God and the Bible and it does not prove that the truth is being told.
