Short stories: Mystery

number of your wealthiest clients into his own account. He probably would have gotten away with it by blaming you, but he did most of the transactions from a laptop. As you are well aware, we track these transactions closely and, luckily for you, your's were handled on the office computer. We knew we had him. It was just a matter of time. He has no alibi."

Returning to her office, Samantha tried to feel sorry for her brother. Try as she might, she just couldn't do it. All she could think about during the drive was how hard she had worked to make the business a success and how much time Sam had wasted pretending to be her partner. All he ever wanted to do was play golf and travel. "Well, that's over," she thought as she pulled into her parking space and slowly, deliberately walked into the main office. "Beverly, go home." Samantha smiled for the first time in months. "You deserve a vacation and I don't want to see you in here for two weeks!" With Beverly staring at her in disbelief, Samantha went into her office and closed the door.

As she sat down at her desk, she opened the drawer and took out her laptop. She keyed in a password, her old password, the same password her brother had used to move the accounts. The difference being he had no idea the password had been changed during his recent trip to England. He hadn't known that although it was "technically" no longer an active password, Samantha had convinced the programmers she needed it for some slow, yet still active accounts. By the time the programmers figured out what was really going on, Samantha would be long gone.

While she waited for the computer to load up the site for the Bank of Nassau, she poured herself a drink. "If only you had helped me more, little Brother. Now, it's my turn to play.

Keying in an account number she sat back and waited. The screen came to life while Samantha finished her drink. She picked up the phone and called the travel agency.

Watching the computer pull up the info, she said, "Hello, yes I would like a 1st Class ticket to the Bahamas. Leaving today."
