STILL WATERS RUN DEEP
A slight, barely audible, tap on the door jamb was followed by an equally quiet, whisper quality voice, "Excuse me, Ms. Waters."
Without looking up from the papers on her desk, Samantha Waters, one of the senior partners in the financial firm of Still Waters, Inc. replied, "Yes Beverly, what is it?
"Ms. Waters, I hate to disturb you, but."
Before she could finish the sentence, Samantha let out a loud sigh, looked up from her work and said, "You're not disturbing me, Beverly. That is what I pay you to do. Now, what is it you want?" Samantha just sat there staring at Beverly for what felt like an eternity. Finally, she could not stand it any longer. "Congratulations, Beverly. You have done your job perfectly. You have succeeded in disturbing me. Would you please explain why you are hovering in my door way?"
Beverly continued to lean against the doorjamb, twirling her hair and popping her gum. "Well there's a man in the lobby who is insisting he speak with you right now."
"OK. Did he give his name? Does he have an appointment? Beverly, you know I'm really, really busy"
"Ms. Waters? Ms. Samantha Waters? My name is Inspector William Archibald with the Security and Exchange Commission and I'm here to escort you downtown immediately."
"Excuse me?" Samantha stood and looked from the Inspector to Beverly. "What's this about?" This had to be a practical joke. Her brother had to be behind this, she thought. So, when she came running in to tell him that obviously someone had hit the car while it was parked in the underground parking garage, she thought he would have a heart attack. As he ran through the main office, he wasn't even aware that no one was at his or her desks.
He rushed to the elevator with Samantha following close on his heels. To this day, she could remember the look on his face when the elevator doors opened and everyone was standing there. When they all shouted, "Happy Birthday!" he turned around and grinned from ear to ear.
"Remember, little sister, Payback's a given." He said. However, he still went over and checked out his car from front to back.
"Ms. Waters? All I can say at this stage is you have been under investigation for allegedly embezzling funds from your company. It's my responsibility to take
