Do you ever wonder what other people on the internet are searching for? For some, it's just a curiosity, but for others like writers, marketers, and researchers, it's something they need to know to do their jobs.
It just so happens that most of the major search engines keep track of that information, and will share it freely if you just know where to look. It just so happens I do know where to look (and now you do too).
AOL Hot Searches - http://hotsearches.aol.com/sea rch/hotsearch.jsp - AOL not only tells you what the top 10 search terms are, it also tells you the top 10 gadget searches, celebrity searches, auto searches, and movie searches, and more.
Ask IQ - http://about.ask.com/en/docs/i q/iq.shtml - This gives you the results for Ask.com. It gives you the top 10 for the week, the hottest new searches, news searches, and entertainment searches.
Dogpile SearchSpy - http://www.dogpile.com/info.do gpl/searchspy/ If you don't know Dogpile, it is a Meta Search engine. It gives you searches from several different search services, and compiles the results for you. Dogpiles SearchSpy gives you the choice of filtered or unfiltered (adult) results. What you get is a running list of the current searches being done on Dogpile. No top 10 or most popular results, just the live search queries.
MetaCrawler MetaSpy www.metaspy.com/info.metac.spy /metaspy/ -MetaCrawler is Dogpiles sister site, and the service is very similar to Dogpile. It also offers filtered and unfiltered results.
Google Trends http://google.com/trends - Today's Hot Trends. Very simple. It's just the top 10 search terms today. It also offers you the chance to compare 2 search terms to see which is more popular.
Google Zeitgeist www.google.com/press/zeitgeist .html - Similar to Google Trends, but compiled weekly instead of daily.
Lycos50 - http://50.lycos.com/ - This is the Lycos Top 50. It looks at trends compared to the previous week, and lets you know how many weeks the term has been in the top 50.
Yahoo Buzz Index - buzz.yahoo.com/ - Looks at trends, top searches, and biggest gainers from Yahoo. It also complies some lists just for fun (Top "Bad" searches 1) bad breath, 2) bad credit, 3) cure for bad breath.)
Hope that helps. If you need more, you can always do a search.
