English is spoken by billions around the world. It is an official language of all the nations of the Commonwealth of Nations. It was exported by the huge global studies that were undertaken by British explorers who caused the greatest expansion of human knowledge known to mankind. It is also the language of technology and International Airports.

English, the real thing, has been a Global language since the British Empire routed most of the others. Unlike other Nations, Britain and the Little England party wanted to get rid of the Empire on the grounds that Policing and Protecting it were too expensive. That is why George the Third was so uncaring about what is now termed the USA. After all if your neighbours started a fight with you, you would retaliate in some form to stop them. Now of course it is nice to meet people from Tuvalu, Kiribati

and a multitude of other Commonwealth nations in Africa, North America and the antipodes. We tend to be able to rely on each other in difficulties. Nice.

Interference by the Dutch, French, Germans, Belgians and Spanish had to be stopped and caused the growth of our modern Commonwealth. Hope I didn't cause offence by omitting anyone? Unfortunately in the middle of all this Global expansion and knowledge there was a little Tommy Tucker sitting in the corner. Tommy Tucker suddenly found that his isolationist, business only policies didn't work. In 1943 Pearl Harbour was attacked by the Japanese. The USA had been warned but ignored the warning.

Then the USA had to go to war for real, outside the USA. Thanks to the Groundwork and huge expense by Britain, Russia and those who gathered globally in Britain to fight, the USA participated in a successful war. Pity. If they had stayed out the English language might not know be fighting off another takeover bid. Two years of a seven year does not make heroes USA.

On the other hand not all the three hundred residents in the USA actually speak anything resembling English. More people speak Mandarin than you claim as US citizens. And again, more people speak English in the Commonwealth, Protectorates and Territories, than speak Mandarin even added to the USA's freaky version of our native tongue.

You are welcome to switch to Mandarin and stop bothering us. There's a Dunce's hat marked USA waiting in the English corner for you. Leave our language alone, or learn it.
