When you write a thank-you letter after an interview it is not only to be polite but to ensure that the interviewer remembers you and so that you stand out from other potential candidates for the job.
An idea to make sure that the interviewer can put a face to your name when they receive the letter is to have a passport sized photograph of yourself in the top right hand corner of the letter. You may at first think that this is too forward, but it will definitely make an impression and very few other people will have thought of doing the same.
Make the letter short and precise, adding a personal touch by remembering any information that you gleaned during the interview that was personal to the interviewer, for example that he is a sports fan, and add an appropriate link to this subject. This will show that you really paid attention during the interview and is also a compliment to the interviewer.
State what you liked about the interview process. Try to only pick a few genuine comments to say. Over-doing it by trailing out many comments will make you sound either desperate or insincere.
Also remind the interviewer about what qualities you have which you could positively bring to the job. Keep this short as the interviewer will be busy sorting out applicants information and wont have time to read something the length of the dead sea scrolls.
Lastly, affirm that you actually really want the job. This may seem obvious but don't forget the an interview is a two way process engineered to help both you and the interviewer assess whether you will be right for the job and the job will be right for you.
