Poetry: Being trapped

"No More"

6:00 PM
dinner's ready
where is he
6:30 PM
he's late
7:00 PM
he's home
how come you're late
SLAP!
crying, weeping, sobbing on the floor
apologizing: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please no more . . .
you sure as hell are, don't back talk me
SLAP!
10:00 PM
I'm going to bed
10:30 PM
I'm asleep
11:00 PM
I wake to my clothes being torn off
what are you doing
stop
SLAP!
crying weeping, sobbing in bed
apologizing: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please no more . . .
you ought to be, I'm your husband -
if I want it, I get it
SLAP!
6:00 AM
I wake up and turn off the alarm
he didn't get up
6:30 AM
I just got out of the shower
he's still not up
7:00 AM
I go to his dresser and take out his gun
7:30 AM
he's still not up -
and he's not going to get up
POW!
POW!
POW!
no more SLAP!
I could never go to prison
POW!
no more
