Many video games over the course of history have been labeled as The Best Game Ever'. Each of these games is always overshadowed by another Best Game Ever' but always have a special place in the players' hearts.
These games have had this coveted title for being immense fun, having a long replay value, and just being able to wow the players at every possible moment.
A few of my own personal favorites I shall list and explain, albeit opinion.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
In my own opinion, beat Super Mario hands down when it was released in 1991. The fastest plat-former around for its time, it didn't relinquish playability for speed. Strategy still had to be employed to beat certain enemies, and care and attention had to be paid to navigate some of the nastier later stages of the game. And hey, a blue hedgehog. You can't go wrong with a blue hedgehog can you?
MARIO PARTY
Came to us on the N64 in 1999 (1998 if you lived in Japan). Despite Sonic taking my top spot in the platforming department, Mario was the only one to be so successfully built into a board game. Against friends it was highly competitive, and the mini games, whilst simple, were highly addictive. Having to team up with people depending on the color space you all land on could make or break your entire game plan, and some backstabbing might occur just to stop someone overtaking you. My friends and I still make time to play this classic of a game, and its still as fun as it was the 1st time we played.
MARIO KART
There's a pattern emerging here. Mario Kart, again a highly addictive and competitive game. No teams this time, and the simple aim of getting to the finish line first, only with a twist. You can collect weapons, such as shells and banana skins to smash and skid your foes from the field. And if that gets old for a while, switch to battle mode, where the one to survive wins. Again, a multi-player classic!
POKMON
Daft as these little critters might look, they were the makings of such a beautiful and intricate collection of RPG's. Collect little monsters in balls, and use those monsters against other people's monsters. Collect badges from Gym Leaders, and challenge the best trainers in the world to be the best. The newest generation of the games, Diamond and Pearl, can even be played over the Internet wirelessly against people all over the world! Kids all over the world went mad for this game.
WORLD OF WARCARFT
The addiction, as many would label this game. An MMORPG of epic proportions. This game lasts people months, even years. It is massive, and because it's all on-line there is constantly new content being released for it. Team up with hundreds and thousands of people to take on the deadliest of foes, or kick back in Ironforge and just chat to everyone. Because of the way it works, you can play at your own level, at your own pace, and generally do whatever you want. Choose how you will play the game. Do you want to cast damaging spells from afar? Do you want to get up close and personal? Do you like to go head on, or be sneaky? Different classes of characters are available for choosing when you create a character. The game also offers Player Vs Player combat, so that you can engage with each other, as well as things in the game.
Well I think that just about wraps my list up. Its interesting to read other peoples articles and see what they think. As I say, the best games differ according to taste. A bit like food really.
