Why swimming is great for cross training

Simply put, swimming is the best cardio workout you can do. Think about the benefits. Low impact, high heart rate, increased lung proficiency, and muscle strength and definition. The low impact is perfect for the elderly who sometimes have bad or weak joints. It also leaves you will a strong feeling when you are done, instead of achy joints. High heart rate is a must for anyone that is considering a thorough workout. Swimming allows you to achieve whatever heart rate you want without out muscle discomfort. Increased lung proficiency improves all aspects of life. For those people with asthma, it is a great way to conquer it. Never get winded at the top of your stairs again. Be able to stay in the entire basketball game, all because of swimming. Last of all muscle definition, which is a desirable attribute. Do you want that flat tummy or that defined six pack try doing 200 yards of butterfly kick on you back and you'll be there in no time. Trim off that little (or a lot) excess fat, and achieve the body type you have always wanted. Swimming 1 mile burns 300 calories(about 30-40mins) equivalent to a 3 mile run.
