I must say that in this world of modern technology, we do need to ban hand held cell phones. With all the gadgets around which allows one to speak on the phone and still have ones hands free to drive the car, there should not need to be long debates over this matter. No one is being deprived by using other means to hold a cell phone without utilizing ones hands. Hands are free and still one can speak freely to a caller. We all talk with our car passengers so there is nothing wrong with speaking on the phone as long as our hands are free to operate the vehicle we are driving.

There have been many accidents due to the use of hand held cell phones. In Florida alone, a women driving her children to school went into a canal because of using a hand held cell phone while driving. Another mother his a small child while driving and using a cell phone. Another mother lost her control of her car while reaching in her purse for her cell phone. These are just some very serious situations that hand held cell phones can cause. Imagine, now if these people didn't use hand held cell phones but purchase one of the modern gadgets which hold the phone for you and leaves you free to drive. These situations are less likely to occur.

Yes, cell phones are very useful items when an accident occur. One has easy access to call for help. A young boy whose mother was driving became very sick while getting ready to take the children to school. The 11 year old son took his mothers cell phone and dialed 911. The mother's life was saved. So the problem is not the cell phones, but the way they are being used by drivers.

In conclusion I believe that hand held cell phones should be banned, While proper use of the cell phone when driving a car should be allowed. They save life, they help when needing assistance in an emergency, and they may be the only thing between a victim and a criminal. Common sense tells me to get rid of the hand held cell phones and make society use car gadgets that hold the phone for them. After all life is precious and it may be your life that is saved because of allowing stationary cell phones to be used while driving.
