In my opinion, Networking is the most powerful and beneficial use of job hunting. I advised my nephew to join the various golf clubs years ago. Now that he is 16 he has many contacts and also job offers. He has earned respect due to his dedication and ability of golf and has a social network which is very beneficial to him. Networking comes under many guises. Here are just some ideas to help you begin Networking. Soon you will understand the benefits.
1. Use your list of contacts: family, friends, work colleagues, teachers, lecturers and social contacts.
2. Find out if any of the fore-mentioned contacts know of job openings. Is it in there power to arrange and interview or informal chat?
3. Join social clubs and memberships which may help you to meet people in the line of work you choose. Do your research.
4. Research the area you are interested in gaining a position of work. Find out who the main people are working within this industry, company. Try to make contact with them
5. Voluntary work could help you to meet people who can open doors for you.
6. If you want to start your own business, use business cards, flyers, advertising, the Internet and word of mouth. Market yourself and your business.
7. Confirm interviews and attend them.
Good luck and enjoy your time networking!
