Career assessments are created to help you find out more about yourself and the type of job which would be of benefit to you and suit you. There are many types of assessments such as online and by a professional career advisor. Here are the do's and dont's of career assessments:
1. DO take the assessment seriously. They can enable you to reassess your life choices and career paths. You may be surprised with the outcome of these tests and discover a whole new you. Perhaps you have been stuck in an administration role for years and really you should be working in the backdrop of Africa, researching the wilder beasts!
2. DONT just take one test. Take several online tests.
3. DO compare and contrast the results Of these assessments. Are these tests valid? You will find out if the results are comparable
4. DO be true to yourself. Are you being honest with your answers? Be honest and open. No one else will see these tests if you do not want them to. There is nothing to feel embarrassed about. The assessment is about you, no one else.
5. DON'T take psychological career assessment tests and try to be the person you want to be, rather than who you actually are. If the test involves marking colours or shapes that are supposed to define your personality, check the one that immediately comes to mind. Do not tick the one that you think makes you look cleverer, or more organised.... This will not help you in your career destiny.
6. DON'T take only online assessments.
7. DO meet a qualified careers advisor. They will be able to give you face to face assessments and tests. These people have a lot of experience and will help you to feel relaxed.
8. Do have fun taking these tests!
