Most people live in cozy houses with all the enmities they could possible want. Not much "rough" about that but you still hear people complain all of the time about how hard their plight in life is.
People that camp for a weekend or even a week at a time might feel that they are roughing it even if they have all the latest fancy gear. Some people want and plan to rough it when they go out camping and some don't plan to at all and both are fine. I think it all depends on the person.
I would say that I am a roughing it kind of person. Every year since my kids were little we have gone on a 5 day camping trip at least once a year, some times more often than that. Being a single mom makes camping with kids some what of a challenge in its self. We always took 2 tents a cooler and the camping duffle bag. The bag was always packed with candles, matches, fire starter, cooking utensils and the likes. We had a few mishaps but mostly we had fun.
Now that my kids are grown and I have 1.5 grand kids and I feel I am still young enough I want to really rough it...
I want to plan a summer camping trip. Yes, the whole summer, possibly longer. I own a 30 camper but I don't think I will take it. I'm thinking about making my own yurt or possibly a geo-dome. A tent is fine for short term but in the long haul roughing it situation I really think something more structurally sound would be better.
More to come on this story as time permits to collect things I will take with me on this "roughing it" adventure.
