Lets imagine you have to go out for some errands so you get out of your house with your two children. You strap your 6 months old baby in a car seat safely and ask your 5 year old to put his seat belt on. After securing your seat belt on, you check to see if the road is clear for you to drive and you proceed. You have taken every precautionary action you can possibly take to keep your children and yourself safe. However, how can you secure yourself from any disaster that you have no idea is coming your way? Every disaster happens in few seconds and minutes but influences you in a way that can affect you for rest of your live.
People sitting in those vehicles that were at the bridge at the time of the collapse were also unaware of the disaster that was proceeding there way. A minute before their biggest problem was how to beat the traffic to make it to their destination on time and a minute after their problem was how to survive. That 40 year old bridge collapse and took people's sense of securely with it. On the other hand what can you really do? Can you stop going in the tall buildings after the attack of 911? Can you stop traveling on airplanes after 911? Can you stop vacationing after Tsunami? Can you stop living in your own house, own state after Katrina?
Life goes on. I know it is easier said than done but what can you really do? What you can really do is try to help the victims of these disasters in some ways. Help them either in finances or physically offer the assistance. 911 and Tsunami were the biggest disaster however it bought people together. Total strangers were helping each other. They were putting their lives in danger to help safe people they didn't know. Moral of this article is that no one can predict when disaster strikes but it is good to know that there are people in this world that are there to help.
