Poetry: If I ruled the world

If I could rule the world, I'd stop all vaccinations
I'd stop spraying for mosquitoes, and giving medications
I'd pull the plug on disaster drills and organ donor cards
And stop the war on drugs, so we can grow them in our yards
I'd make you an adult by the time you get your zits
And put a firearm in every hand, as long as it fits
I'd take back handicapped plaques and repaint all the spaces

I see I have your attention now by the looks upon your faces
Death would flood the streets by accident, illness or crime
And morning commute will be easier in very little time
Some of you are amused, some outraged or perplexed
But it's not over yet, Mother Nature's coming next
Hurricane's and twisters and earthquakes running free
Tsunamis on the coastlines, reclaiming earth to sea
Fresh food, water and power all vanish in a puff
All the rotting bodies can't be buried fast enough
Now let me see what else I have inside my bag of tricks
I've always liked the classics, throw a plague into the mix
Drop the average life span just a couple decades lower
Then maybe I'll hear morning birds, not the damn leaf blower
You may say, "It's overcrowded, but the answer's not disaster!"
Six billion served on this wet rock and it's only growing faster
By now they said we'd be in space and drilling Mars for oil
Instead we're running out of space, building condos on the soil
We keep pretending to fight nature and try to tip the scales
But Nature has a job to do and Nature never fails
So if I could rule the world I'd get an early start
Stripping away the limp and lame, the meek and weak of heart
Delivering Natural Selection from sea to stormy sea
Purging the world of lawyers (That one's just for me)
It would wake mankind from slumber atop the old food chain
To be thrown back in time an Age or two again
Time would slow and I bet we'd smell the roses now and then
But oh well, I've got to go. Oprah's on at ten.
