Aston Villa are a prime example of a sleeping giant. They always have, and always will, have vast amounts of money to spend and they do spend it, but never seem to get the right players Juan Pablo Angel for nine million proves my point. In the transfer market they have came out with gems such as Gareth Southgate and David James and sold them off for a fair amount.
The season I most remember Aston Villa for was the FA Cup Final season, the last year of Wembley, that season they showed who Aston Villa were, they may have got beaten in that final but they showed tremendous spirit to get there. At that time they were also huge contenders for the Champions League places but narrowly missing out each year and settling instead for the UEFA Cup.
This last year, in what was meant to be 'their year', was hugely disappointing for them. They started so well under the new, Martin O'Neil, regime but floundered all that good work and just managed around tenth place. At one point they seemed destined for UEFA Cup football, back where many believe they belong and surely a big club like Aston Villa should be.
If you think of big clubs Aston Villa should, and most probably will, come to mind, despite how poor they have been in recent years. For all involved with Aston Villa Football Club they will be gracefully hoping for a return to fortunes of their once massive club. In many people's opinions they and Spurs should both be in with the top four and challenging for that Champions League spot.
Basically what I am saying is that this season they have to prove that with the big money backing they have got and the massive reputation they have world wide, they must make this season count and prove to themselves and to everyone else that they are indeed still a big club and shouldn't be playing about in mid-table mediocrity.
