Once again, we are faced with tragedy as a nation..it seems far too common these days. The story of a bridge collapse in Minneapolis is fresh off the presses, and it leaves this writer saddened for the victims and their families
Can you imagine driving down the road, radio on, maybe talking to your teenage child, and the road literally disappears? I can't grasp what that must have been like for those poor souls in Minneapolis. What a horrible event that must have been..and it's still transpiring as I write this.
We, as a nation have become a little callous to these type of tragedies, for they seem to be far too common these days. And after 9-11 most things pale in comparison. But you can't compare apples and oranges, and each event is as tragic as the other to those involved.
What it all brings to mind for me, is the strength, and courage of the individuals directly involved. Already, less than 24 hours after the fact, there are stories arising of people coming out of their own sunken autos and helping others to safety..wow, how amazing is that? To put a total strangers well-being on the same level as your own is the ultimate sacrifice.
And this is the place we should all strive to reach in our own lives. Saying you love someone is easy, showing your love can be a challenge. Would you put someones safety on the same level as your own? I like to think I would, but until you're tested, you never know.
This will soon be relegated to our back-burners, as all things are in this fast moving world. But there are lessons in this for those willing to see them, and hopefully we can all learn something. Reach out to someone today, they may not be here tomorrow.
