I remember my sex education in school, when I was around 15. In one lesson, the nurse brought in a big box of condoms.

"Could I take some of those?" asked one girl at the end of the lesson.
"No!" The nurse was shocked. "I'd be fired if I let you take condoms from me!"

This surely went against everything the nurse had been saying. This wasn't being mature, open and honest about sex.

Many teenagers always have, and always will, have sex. We need to prevent the teens who do have sex from becoming pregnant or getting diseases. The only way to prevent both is condoms. The message must be "if you're going to have sex, use a condom".

Condoms bought from shops are very expensive and many teenagers are unlikely to be able to afford them. Most towns have a clinic where condoms and sexual health advice are given out freely to teenagers, but these are inconvenient and the idea of visiting a sexual health clinic is too daunting a prospect for some teens. Yes if they are put off by those reasons and end up pregnant it is through their own silliness, but do we not want to do whatever we can to stop teenage pregnancies?

Placing condoms in schools makes condoms as convenient as possible to teenagers. In my college, one lunchtime a week there is a "condom club". A group of health professionals visit the college and distribute condoms. In order to receive condoms a student must have a one-on-one talk with a health professional and learn about proper condom use, sexual health issues and relationship issues. "Condom club" is extremely popular.

We have to face the facts, many teenagers do start having sex during school. In order to decrease the likelihood of teenage pregnancies, we should make it as easy as possible for them to obtain condoms, and distribution through schools would probably be the best method.
