The Labrador retriever, well the name practically says it all. The Labrador retriever is designed to retrieve, and hunt. The usually 21-24inch and approximately 65- 80-pound dog is a complete package of total success. An extraordinary creature who hunts like a mighty one but is a sucker for ones love.
There are two of types of Labrador retrievers, the American, and the English. The Labrador retriever is very easy to be taught if of course you are firm with it, and praise it when it has done something right.
The Labrador retriever also loves to swim, and is a very active dog. They rank high in intelligence, and are very loyal. Do not mistake your Labrador retriever as a guard dog, because they are simply watchdogs. They are also great for hunting, tracking, police work, guide for the blind, service dog for the disabled, sled dog, carting, and competitive obedience.
However, even this extraordinary pet/companion/and friend has some health issues you should be aware of. Hip and elbow dysplasia, PRA, and eye disfunctions are some of the main problems your Labrador retriever can develop. Your lab is estimated to live for a good 10-13 years. Nevertheless, just in case, here is one thing you can do to keep your lab extra healthy:
The Labrador retriever already has a big look to it, so the food you feed it, is very important. There specific food designed for Labrador retrievers, buy that kind. It has all the vitamins and minerals a lab needs.
