Running has innumerable health benefits. The most obvious benefits that may pop up in one's mind may be muscle toning, weight loss and reducing cholesterol levels. But there are many other benefits including psychological benefits.
Running gives a good workout for muscle that may usually be left out while doing other exercises. If you are a trail runner, you gain a better balance on a uneven surface. You gain better confidence and endurance too. It increases the metabolic rate and helps you to attain a good body posture. Some runners prefers running as a way to reduce weight while others to stay in good shape.
Running helps one to relax. While running endorphins may be released in greater amount into the blood stream, a hormone known to reduce pain. Running helps one to say good bye to worries, tensions and anxieties of the day. It helps one to focus more on themselves and their breath. It can add a feel good feeling in you. A good running in the evening hours may helps you to forget the worries at workplace. It even gives a better night's sleep. So running is a natural stress reducer.
Running, just like any other forms of exercise can impart good health. It reduces the LDL cholesterol(bad cholesterol linked to heart diseases) and increases the HDL cholesterol (Good cholesterol) levels. Running also helps to burn more calories and to sweat out and release all the body wastes. It lowers the blood cholesterol levels enabling to fight against cardiovascular diseases. The heart muscles becomes more efficient and healthy with regular running.
Bones get stronger with regular running. Running in the morning hours outdoors helps better absorption of Vitamin D from sunlight. Bone density increases with regular running regime. Increased bone density is a must to avoid osteoporosis that occurs as part of aging.
