Packing for college: Avoid procrastination and be prepared

Okay, so college is just around the corner and you haven't even thought about packing. No worries, you can do this! It's not the end of the world. Take it in a few simple strides.

One, remember you are headed off to college and, while the cute stuff decorating your room at home is fun, you won't need all of it in your college dorm. Grab a few of the things from your room that you just can't live without and keep the rest behind for the folks. Your room will be small (even smaller with a roommate). Once you get there and see what your room looks like and how your roommate has (or hasn't) decorated, then it will be time to hit the store for some much needed decoration shopping. Put your touch on the tiny section that will be your new home!

Two, if you don't like to do laundry, start out prepared. Take extra items with you. Make sure you have enough under garments (briefs, panties, socks, etc.) to get you through several weeks. Trust me, you can wear a pair of jeans more than once, but trying to wear a pair of panties more than once isn't the best move you'll ever make.

Three, electronics are key. While you'll have a community lounge where people hang out and your resident advisor has planned some amazing, fun-filled movie event, bring your own stuff! Turn your dorm into an open social hub (but make sure to utilize the study lounges in the dorm or the library if you go this route). Grab the stereo, mini fridge, microwave, TV, DVD player, Xbox 360 or Wii and know that you can kick back and relax for a bit.

Finally, pack your game face. After you've put your personal touch on your room, put away your clothes and hooked up your gadgets, it's time to focus on why you're there to learn. So buckle down. Concentrate on your studies and work hard at them. Get into a rhythm early on of working hard and then taking a break to have some fun you might find it works pretty well.

College is an awesome experience that you'll never forget. You'll meet amazing people, have crazy adventures, and do things you never thought you would or could. So, what are you waiting for? Finish packing and have a blast!
