You have chosen the perfect school. It has everything you wanted in a college: urban area, large campus, high retention rate, etc. And you have painted the perfect picture of yourself: Smart, Athletic, Outgoing, a Leader. This is match made in heaven, or so you thought.
Getting a rejection letter can be one of the hardest things during the college process. There are times when a rejection letter comes as no surprise because you were shooting for the absolute stars, and sometimes a rejection letter can knock the wind out of you. The first thing to remember when you get a rejection letter is that it is not a reflection of you as a person. You are not rendered useless when you don't get into your first choice school.
Another thing to remember is that everything happens for a reason, and I know that not every one believes this, but I'm telling you, there have been things that I thought I wanted so bad, but when I got the chance to see someone else in the position that I wanted to be in, I was grateful. There may be a school on your list that you haven't given the proper time of day that might turn out to be the perfect fit for you.
Remember that you can get an education anywhere and whatever you get out of your time at college is completely up to you. You can get good grades and make life-long friends at whatever school you attend. So when you get that rejection letter in the mail, look alive, consider your options and change the plan. Don't go into a school with a negative attitude, have an open mind and an open heart, and I promise doors will open.
