Pros and cons of the Jenny Craig weight loss program

Jenny Craig is a popular weight loss program that has experienced continued and growing success since Jenny started the business in 1983 in Australia. With a 24-year track record, they must be doing something right. Here is a quick look at the pros and cons of using the Jenny Craig program to reach your weight loss and fitness goals.

THE PROS
The basic benefits of the Jenny Craig system are the way the meals are planned and delivered. With your membership, you receive pre-packaged meals delivered right to your doorstep. This takes the guesswork out of grocery shopping, portion sizes, and counting calories. There is little preparation needed - just heat and eat.

In addition to the food portion of the plan, Jenny Craig is known for the extensive support system they offer their clients. Each program is supplemented with face-to-face, one-on-one support with a Jenny Craig counselor. They offer motivation, address eating behaviors and emotional needs, and provide exercise and fitness tips.

The program is tailored to the needs of individuals down to the point where food calories are budgeted differently for each client. This results in a healthy weight loss of one to two pounds per week. All around, the plan doesn't encourage any bad behaviors, such as starvation or ignoring food groups, and positively addresses the needs of the client as a whole person.

THE CONS
While it seems perfect, many clients will find there are cons to the Jenny Craig system. Many people are turned off by the idea of eating frozen meals and may not like the taste. Ordering a lot of food at one time can make for a cramped freezer, and the monthly fees, while replacing your normal grocery bill, can range from $300-500.

Dieters who plan to eat out often might find it difficult to stick to a similar plan, and once the pre-planned meals are slowly removed, cooking at home can become a challenge. The counselors for Jenny Craig are not necessarily certified health professionals.

The upside to the cons is that they aren't related to nutrition or exercise, meaning they aren't issues that cause a danger to your health. They are administrative issues, if you will. Jenny Craig continually offers specials for new members, and several tools are available on their website for learning more about the program. If you are excited by social networking and would like the accountability a live mentor can offer, Jenny Craig may be a beneficial program for you.
