I must say that I am not a gardener, I'm a gardener wannabe. I see all of these beautiful gardens all around me and it is something I want my yard to aspire to. I tried, I chose the plot carefully, decided on it shape, studied various garden magazines to understand the needs of the plants I wanted in my little garden. Tended it carefully turning the soil, breaking up the clots of dirt, removing stones, adding mulch. Then the fun part came, finding the plants.
Ever so carefully I went to the nurseries, looked at the various plants for sale, chose the ones I wanted with care. Brought them home, placed them precisely where they would look their best and their colors would compliment each other. Red, white, blue, purple and yellow flowers. I tended it daily, checking for weeds, bugs, talking to them.
Neighbors would walk or drive by and admire my little creation. People driving by would point and smile. I was very proud of my first attempt at creating a lovely little garden.
One day a friend stopped by for a visit while I was tending my precious little piece of paradise and commented on how creative my design was, very unique and unusual, and how the kids must love it. Her comment confused me so I asked her why the kids would enjoy it. Her astonished look became understanding, and she pulled me to my feet and out to the middle of the road and pointed towards my beloved little flower bed. To my horror, the precious piece of paradise I had been tending daily right in the middle of my yard, resembled a huge clown face wth his tongue sticking out!
