While there is a valid argument that children and especially girls benefit from the single-sex classrooms, I think that school should serve as a microcosm of the real world. Yes there are jobs out there that are single-sex dominated, but the crucial interaction between boys and girls even at the toddler level is important in forming and shaping the way that these future CEOs and teachers interact with each other.
In the single-sexed environment, children do have the opportunity to come into their own skin without the fear of the unknown that is found in the opposite sex. But allowing children to get comfortable in what they know, will render them useless when thrown into a situation where they have to quickly adapt and conform and change and learn. In schools that have both genders, there is always the opportunity to learn from each other and to grow with each other.
So I will say that children most likely get a better formal education in single-sex school, but that the valuable social experience is lost when the sexes are separated in schools.
