There are 3 key components to a successful oral presentation.
(1) KNOW YOUR MATERIAL. You must know your material forward and backward, inside and out. Practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more. Stand before a mirror and deliver your message again and again until you are absolutely comfortable with your delivery. This will make a world of difference. Study your body language and your facial expressions and hand motions. Learn what looks convincing, and what looks boring or silly. Practice your tone and volume, and then practice some more. Knowing your material and delivery intimately will boost your confidence level through the roof.
(2) FOLLOW THE 3-PHASE METHOD. First, tell your audience what it is your going to tell them (intro). Second, tell them your material (body). Third, tell them what you just told them (summary). In other words, you want to drive home your point in all three phases of your speech. This reinforces to your audience the reason why you are standing before them.
(3) USE PERSONAL TESTIMONY. If your subject matter allows, always use reference to personal testimony. Experience trumps facts every time. Facts can be useful, and necessary at times, but allow room for personal experience if at all possible. Personal stories will always pique the interest of an audience and keep them engaged in your message. The personal touch will go a long way in connecting with your audience.
