Murderous Beast? Are you kidding me? As I sit here writing this article, I am watching my baby boy (a Pit Bull cross) snuggled up on the couch next to my husband and his baby sister (an Australian Shepard). We rescued "Cutter" from the pound nearly seven years ago. He has been an integral part of the family since then. He came from an abusive home, and when we first brought him to ours, he admittedly had some trust issues. However, over time, he has come to understand we mean him no harm, and therefore, he means us no harm.
He is protective by nature, but not aggressive. To be quite honest, I have an Australian Shepard and a Boston Terrier who are both more aggressive than he. He is a total mommas boy, and every night when I get home, I am greeted with the warmest of tail wags and plenty of kisses. He keeps my feet warm in the winter, and makes the best pillow ever when I don't feel well. His heart is bigger than those massive jowls of his, and his intentions are nothing but pure. He is the most loyal and well mannered dog we own. (we have four)
I really believe that Pit Bulls are much like guns. When treated properly, there is no need for alarm. But when they are put into the wrong hands, and misused, they become dangerous. I don't feel that Pit Bulls are more dangerous than any other dog. There is always a risk of being harmed. After all, they are all animals. But the reputation of the Pit Bull makes it more appealing to the wrong hands. When handled with love and respect, a Pit Bull will give you the same.
