Alternative approaches to healing cancer

Lawrence LeShan's treatment for cancer patients is focused not on what is wrong with the patient but what is right with him or her. He has helped people find what gives them satisfaction, a solid reason to continue living. Even though people can't always give a straight answer to what they want their lives to be like, their commitment to start a quest for meaning has an immediate impact of their immune system, which is compromised in cancer patients.

Spontaneous cancer remissions have puzzled doctors for decades. Many scientists have tried to explain why people, who supposedly had their days numbered, suddenly improve and have their cancer disappear. It includes studies based on 30 years of research with more than 70,000 cancer patients, and includes contributions by renowned scientists in the field of psychoneuroimmunology, such as W. Douglas Brodie, Candace Pert, Susan Silberstein, Lydia Temmoshok, Lawrence LeShan, and Ryke Geerd Hamer, doctors and counselors convinced that the key to curing cancer lays in other approaches different from the conventional invasive cancer treatments.

A psychotherapist, Dr. LeShan, considered a pioneer in mind-body therapies, has worked with cancer patients for fifty years. According to the report, "Over the past thirty years, approximately half of LeShan's cancer patients with a poor prognosis have gone into remission."

The founder of what later become The Cancer Recovery Foundation and author of The Cancer Conqueror, Greg Anderson decided to heal his relationships with everybody, when he realized he had only a few weeks to
