Absolutely not. Libby was duly convicted, and I'm sure he has a battery of high-powered lawyers who are more than capable of putting forth a cogent, aggressive appeal of his conviction and sentence. President Bush should have kept his nose out of it.

But by intervening, George W. Bush proved, once again, that, at his core, he's no more than a rank politician who got himself twice elected President by convincing conservatives like me that he, too, is a conservative and would work to advance conservative principles, and adhere to conservative values.

I voted for him twice and, boy, is my face red! Did "Dubya" out-slick Slick Willie? No question about it. At least everyone knows where the Clintons are coming from; they're power-hungry, tax-and-spend, bleeding-heart liberals who make no bones about it.

Bush, on the other hand, conned his conservative supporters by promising lower taxes, smaller, less intrusive government, and a secure America. Although he did lower taxes, he forgot to mention that he would also run the largest annual federal budget deficits in U. S. history, negating and even reversing the tax cuts. That is not the action of a conservative.

Smaller government? I don't think so. One could make a decent case for the Transportation Security Administration; it's logical to me that U. S. airport security should be a federal government responsibility. Better training, better threat assessment, and a professional organizational structure with better-educated and better-screened workers seems like a good thing. A better solution, though, would have been simply to expand the already-existing Armed Forces and have them share responsibility for airport security.

But the Department of Homeland Security? No way! The DHS chief is now issuing terror warnings based on "gut feelings". Are you kiddin' me? Their handling of the Katrina debacle made the U. S. an international laughingstock. And they're doing less than zero to interdict potential terrorists entering the U. S. from our southern border. This is a cabinet-level department the people of the U. S. do not need.

The Patriot Act speaks for itself and is largely unconstitutional. No true conservative would have foisted this on America.

I'm disgusted with Bush pounding his podium over and over swearing to the high heavens that he'll do everything possible to keep America secure, to his last breath, while his administration is working feverishly and furtively to advance the "Security and Prosperity Partnership" with Canada and Mexico, which would create the North American Union, effectively abolishing U. S. sovereignty, and eliminate the U. S dollar in favor of a continental currency, the "amero".

It seems Mr. Bush feels that, because Europeans had the European Union foisted on them, we Americans need the NAU foisted on us. No, thanks. As far as I'm concerned, Uncle Sam should take care of America and Americans first, and everyone else second. If Mexico or France or China don't like it, they can go float, in my opinion.

Bush is a globalist in a Reagan mask. He stands as the latest, most convincing and edifying example of why American voters and taxpayers are ill-served by the 2 major parties and the so-called "2-party" system. The Republicans and Democrats have their differences, but they are largely cosmetic, and neither party is willing to undertake the reforms America truly needs, so, when all is said and done, it really doesn't matter which of them is in charge.
