When lying hurts

When lying hurts....very interesting topic.

Lying doesn't hurt all the time. The little white lie that you had finished your homework when you know that you have a few questions to do. Lying that the lipstick color your mother just bought fits her perfectly. Lying does not hurt all the time. But there are times when lies can leave battlefields and no survivors in their wake.

A rule that I have is that if my mind goes back and thinks of a lie that I have told then it was a big lie. Little white lies have a way of erasing themselves from my memory, they're small and generally unimposing, having no devastating or long term effects. But my brain gives me a second chance to go over and ruminate on the lie that I have told, then I know that it was a doozie.

Big lies have a way of making you worry, wondering if it will get back to someone else, hoping that the person you just lied to doesn't check their mail, or read your blog, or whatever else. Big lies can end up hurting everyone around you and in the hurting you the most.

The weight of lying is best described by the trust phenomenon. Trust can be shattered in the minute that you tell a lie, but takes years and years to build. Lying when you have been appointed with someone's trust is always a bad idea and results in a situation where everyone is hurt.
