There can be only one you! We may have a range of characters and emotions at any given time but getting to know your own self is a battle worth undertaking! My mom has always told me for years, especially during my wide range of teenage emotions during that time, "There can only be one you!" She said it over and over again and I quote: "Who's going to be you while you're busy being someone else?" I didn't get it then but now I do. Believe me it is just a horror trying to dissect and find all the real pieces of your own self after you have masqueraded an ocean of emotions and personalities for the world around you.
Just think about every time you said you cared about something someone was talking about and you realize no...you really didn't. All the times you told that special someone you were with that you were patient and laid back and was willing to do anything for them and no...really you demanded alot and just hoped you could change them eventually. It goes on and on and on. We are like chameleons, we change with the wind. We have to keep our boss happy, so we act this certain way. We're mad we had to act that way all day for our boss so we miscommunicate our true selves to the ones we love by continuing to change like the seasons. We owe it to ourselves and others to find out who we truly are inside. We are so fixed on disappointing people that we learn to sell a false image of ourselves. Our divorce rate is a t 85% because we are selling a dream of what we could be but we truly haven't become that person we truly want to be and when that special someone demands we continue to portray that image, we get mad and begin to pick out their imperfections as well.
It is so important to find out who we truly are. What makes you mad? What makes you cry? What are our passions and pursuits really? Because if we are not doing what we truly love then we expect other people to replace those insecurities with other things to fill those empty spaces. Reality is, no one else can. In the end, we will only be satisfied with our own accomplishments. The sooner we learn about ourselves and continue to grow in that understanding and live our existences as we truly are, the happier we will become. And the sooner we can accomplish this goal, the happier we will be and more understanding of the people around us who have yet to tackle those issues. Everything someone else says or does to hurt you won't hurt anymore because you become the head of what goes in to affect your emotions and what stays out! One of the greatest books I have ever read that helped me come to this personal happiness is "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz. It is such a wonderful book. You don't have to get into what someone is into to get a certain book or subscribe to their way of life or else! Just read in peace. Take in what's good and leave out what you don't like. We can learn from all things and benefit from reading all kinds of books that drives us closer to our spiritual center. However you do it, find out who you truly are and what you want in life and you'll be happier living the only life you have as yourself rather than wasting it under the rule of others. Be happy, be yourself, be you!
