Since first meeting harry in his classroom Snape has been nothing but cruel, and unkind to Harry giving him detentions or taking away Gryffindor points always the first to suggest Harry be expelled.
For seven years now we have believed that Severus is holding a grudge against James Potter for all the times he picked on him during their time at Hogwarts, but in light of new evidence we now know that professor Snape is a very troubled man.
Since his childhood he has been in love with Harry's mom Lilly. He has spent years and years longing for her, only to see her stolen away by James Potter. I believe we should cut poor old Snape some slack, after all he did bring Harry the sword of Godric Gryffindor to destroy Voldemorts horcruxes. Harry should definitely consider Severus Snape his friend.
