Reflections: Thoughts on being gay

After reading a recent showcased article on a male relationship partner being found gay, I was outraged by the concepts portrayed by the writer. The piece sparked much thought as did the comments left by many visitors. After dwelling over the content I was left with one clear thought, The American Language is stuck in the Neanderthal Age.

In most foreign languages the main subject is followed by the adjective describing the subject. In France, for instance, a "brown Bear" would literally be translated as a "bear brown". The language notices the MAIN subject firstly and describes that subject with an adjective secondly.

Why can't we as Americans superficial, learn from this concept. Men who are open-minded and honest enough to live life as what we call "gay men" are not most importantly "gay". These are MEN first and can later be described as "gay" if you so feel the need.

If a woman choose not to live up to the runway model examples of normal, we refer to her as a "fat woman", but...is that woman's most important description "fat"(by putrid societal standards) is that what her true worth can be described as? No, she in all essence could very well be a rocket scientist and all we can see is the adjective.

To be human is a fantastic opportunity of which we should all be proud. Let me not be judged by your adjectives but by my worth as a WOMAN! I am a WOMAN, who happens to be fat, blind, half-deaf and stubborn, but I am a WOMAN first and foremost.

As a society, we all need to learn from cultures enlightened and drop our needs for adjectives superficial. Giving our humans fellow the respect deserved and earned by merits achieved; we will soon find ourselves seeing people for who they truly deserve to be and not simply by the adjectives absurd we choose to place upon them.
