Could an HIV vaccine really be on the horizon

An HIV vaccine is for sure on the horizon. It is truly amazing to see all the works that's being done and the possibilities that now exist. I was just a small child when the diseased surfaced among people and I have grown up in the shadow of its devastation. I usually try to keep myself abreast of all the new developments in the search for a cure, but I was unaware of the tests done on the chimps detailed by fellow helium writer, Stacy Hockenberry.

In a recent study highlighted in the last week of June issue of Science magazine in which German scientist have found a way to snip HIV out of the human genome. (I will spare you all the molecular terminology)They have been able to do this through the use of an enzyme. That enzyme, which can be described as a catalyst has the ability to recognize the protein structure of HIV-1 viruses. The problem with HIV is that through the use of reverse transcriptase, it is able to infuse itself into the nucleolus of a health human cell, the CD-4 or helper T-cell. Once it does that, it has been all impossible to fully rid the body of the virus.
The journal article noted that it will take up to 3 years for any of this to be tested on human subjects, but it is at least a step in the positive direction. With news like this, one can only imagine the upcoming possibilities.
