A few months ago I felt the need to go back to my old farmhouse and claim a piece of the serenity I felt in my garden. I dug up the asparagus, clematis, yarrow and loveage. I took cuttings from the oregano and apple mint. I brought some of the country (and the peace I felt there) to my new home in the suburbs.

All the plants took well except for the clematis. I've watched for the past month as this viney plant tried to take root. I've reattached the vines to the house numerous times, hoping it would take hold and flourish. With love and encouragement, the plant has accepted its new home, attaching its spindles to the wall and taking on new growth. Though the plant would obviously survive, it had yet to flower.

Today, I sit on my patio pondering the idea of honoring our journey. I look to the clematis and see it is covered in dazzling rosy blooms. I feel the connection and know that whether it is a shocked plant or a woman's personal growth, with love and encouragement it will eventually flower.
