This question is somewhat general; and that is why the responses came suggesting numerous teachers and concepts of teaching/learning. If we are talking about learning the basic educational skills then the teacher is the one whom we met at school. In the case of learning the skills of a new job of course 'experience' is your teacher. While if we are talking about learning the answers for those difficult questions that occur to one: e.g. what is love, what is religion, should I do this or it is immoral etc. then there are many teachers here: your parents, the school teachers, your friends, the media, what you read etc.

Therefore, the best teacher is LIFE but unfortunately it takes a long time to say that you have learnt enough; and when you think you have learnt enough and regret all the mistakes you have made in life you are too old to enjoy life. Our best teacher 'life' never covers the syllabus and never prepare you to pass with distinction.
