A Z for surviving the school holidays:
A is for ATTITUDE they have it in bucket loads and you need to neutralize the effect it has on you or risk looking and feeling like a deflated balloon by the end of six weeks!
B is for BAG buy a big one. You'll need it if you want to avoid bankruptcy by the end of the holidays. Carry your own water, sandwiches wipes on days out and you might just get away with only needing your purse for the obligatory ice-cream.
C is for CHAMPAGNE have some chilling in the fridge as a kind of incentive to get you through the next six weeks.
D is for DAYS OUT - before you set foot outside the door check out the Internet (including Ebay) for cheap theme and wildlife park tickets you could save a fortune!
E is for EXTENDED FAMILY get them involved in child care too. Let them bond with their flesh and blood and give you a well earned rest.
F is for FREE SWIMMING lots of Leisure Centers throughout the country (UK) offer free swim facilities during the holidays ring your local authority or contact the leisure center directly for details.
G is for GOOGLE the Internet is full of resources and ideas for things to do and make and its all free get them involved in choosing and your well on your way to filling the time productively.
H is for HABIT get into the habit of planning ahead even if your not going out, have in mind what you can do to keep them amused and you sane.
I is for ICE pass some time getting them to make some different flavored water based drinks and freeze them in lollipop molds and ice cube trays. Use fruit (tinned and fresh) they'll love them.
J is for JOURNEY going by car? Stock up on the essentials if you can afford it invest in an in-car DVD system. If you can't, make sure they have their favorite things to play with if their happy, you're happy.
K is for KNEADING kids love to cook give them the necessary ingredients for pastry and you can watch them while away a wet morning whilst you while away the afternoon clearing up!
L is for LOVE remember how much you love them even when their driving you insane.
M is for MEDICINE make sure you have enough stock of infant/child pain relief medication you'll probably need it at some point.
N is for NATURAL for your own sake go for the additive free option with drinks and snacks to avoid those unnecessary temper tantrums in the Supermarkets and elsewhere.
O is for OBEDIENCE don't waste your time and energy attempting to get them to bend to your will you will break before they do. Instead, aim to promote
