Poetry: Guests

Who would be my Guest?
Fun, and spontaneous.
Yet courteous and punctual.
I like to enjoy life,
But also respect it.

Would you be my Guest?
Thoughtful and kind,
Also daring and wild.
Days can be considered,
And life should be lived.

Where would be my Guest?
In my life and in my home,
In my memory, and in my soul.
Family and friends in the present,
Loved ones and comrades in the past.

When should I expect my Guest?
Anytime and every time,
Life passes one my way.
My door is always open,
To those who want or need.

How long will I entertain my Guest?
For a minute or a day,
For an hour or a lifetime.
Good company knows no time limit,
Hospitality knows no end.

Come to my table, when you wish to be my Guest.
Eat my meal, enjoy my desert,
Warm yourself by the fire, and rest your weary eyes.
Content yourself, with stories on my shelf,
The birds in the tree, or the games on the table.

When you are done, being my Guest.
Take with you memories, and stories to share.
Take with you recipes and laughter.
Invite a friend over and tell them of me,
Ask them to stay a while, and be your Guest.
