Sleep calls to me but I do not come
lying restlessly in the dark of night
hearing the beat of my heart thump thump
against my chest.
Thoughts of sleep I push away
I think of all the things done today
those tasks unfinished as well
My eyes heavy with fatigue
my heart heavy with sorrow
for the world's bewildering plight.
I pray but words fall to silence
deafening silence surrounds me
darkness creeps into my soul
and heavy are my thoughts
Once more I shut my heavy eyes
and find in the morning to my surprise
the sleep that whence would not come
has taken me to the land of nod.

snow softly hitting ground
raindrops glistening making not a sound
stars
Close your eyes now sleepy one
Today's battles have been won
Slumber calls, the angels croon
A soft and soothing restful tune
