It is time to begin removing our troops from Iraq. Regardless of whether we should have been there or not, the initial objective of removing Saddam Hussein has been achieved and it is time for the Iraqi leadership to start leading. They have not met agreed upon timetables nor have they been successful in providing security for Iraqis, in order to protect these citizens from the Muslim extremists who are murdering Iraqis every day. The Iraqis are being attacked by members of its own religion on a daily basis. With the country now in civil war, it is time for the US military to pull out and let the Iraqis sort it all out.
As for instituting democracy in Iraq...Well, I love democracy and it is good for America and Americans, however, prior to Gulf War II, Saddam Hussein was relatively contained. Sure he would make a little noise now and then, but for the most part he was contained. But, we have found out the Iraqis don't like us much, and I submit that it is better to have a dictator that doesn't like us than it is to have an elected government that doesn't like us replacing a dictator that we removed. So, in attempting to institute democracy in a place like Iraq, the American government made a fundamentally flawed decision in attempting to institute democracy into a country that has never had it and doesn't know how to handle it.
