There is only one real solution to the rising cost of talent, or lack of talent in baseball today. Contraction was brought up a couple of years back, and is still a great idea today. If you subtract certain teams, and equally disperse the talent on those teams you will get a domino effect. By getting rid of the players that really don't belong, and replace them with players that are much better. You will then get better competition. The players that we refer to as good players are actually more like average, and some of the players that we refer to as super star players are actually just good all around players. With in this new league you would get more stability in the cash flow to the players, because there is such a clear defining line between the different levels of players. Yes the great players are still going to get paid more, but that is expected. If you do your job really well you expect to get paid more than someone else who doesn't correct? In the end it would all balance out.

As far as a salary cap, it is not needed. As long as the owners are willing to pay the price that the player's agent asks for the cost of talent will continue to go up.
This is known as a business transaction. We do it every day. When you go fill up your car you are paying a high price for fuel. Granted you also feel you need this fuel. You are taking care of a need, but look at it from an owners perspective. If you need a certain player to help your team win games why wouldn't you pay the asking price for that player. All your doing is taking care of a need.
