How to fight off the every day blues

when blues threaten to overtake our mood.

- TOUCH -

* Draw a warm bubble bath and soak stress and cares away.

* Wear a favorite comfy old sweater or wrap up in a cuddly soft afghan while reading a good book, working puzzles, knitting, or any other enjoyable activity.

* Taking a ten minute nap will often result in awakening with a fresh, upbeat perspective

- Get Physical -

It is difficult to indulge ourselves with little ones hovering around needing attention. When that is the case, include children in a brisk walk or bike ride. Stop at the park and have a ride on the swing. Roller skate, jump rope, hula hoop or hopscotch your way to feeling good. Bringing our own inner child out to play will quickly chase the blues away.

Often out of the ordinary tasks will do the trick. When I am feeling down and distracted, the feeling of accomplishment and organization derived from cleaning out neglected drawers and closets will improve my outlook.

I ordinarily dislike ironing, but when my mood is off kilter, I can iron away, while Martina McBride belts out "My Baby Loves Me Just The Way That I Am" and all her other great hits. No one can vanish the blues for me like Martina.

When the blues take hold affirmative action is needed. Don't get mired down and wallow in bad feelings. Take time out, and think about favorite people and things, engage in favorite activities, give yourself permission to make it all about you.

Before long you will be refreshed and ready to get back into the game of life with renewed enthusiasm and spirit.
