Kids need to get out in the sunshine and away from the TV. So how do you make gardening fun, and not a chore?
It's best to start as young as possible. If possible, give your kids each their own little square of ground. Take them to the store, and let them each pick out a packet or two of seeds that they would like to try to grow - this can also be a really great way to get your kids to try new veggies!
Let them each work their own little square, as they see it grow due to their hard work, they will get more and more excited!
Dont' have yard to spare? Get a plastic baggie, some paper towels, a cup of water, and a couple of beans (dried beans that you would use in cooking). Soak in the beans in the water for about 20 minutes. Then moisten the paper towels, fold into a square, and put into your zippie bag (which should be clear). Place the beans on the paper towel, and zip the bag closed. Place the bag in a sunny spot and watch it grow! Your kids will be able to SEE how things grow, and what it looks like!
Then you can encourage them to grow flowers, or window box herbs or veggies!
Gardening is a great way to get up and grow!
